Loadout checklist before you shoot

Slot What to confirm Why it matters
Weapon class Starter rifle / auto / shotgun is equipped Unarmed time is wasted daytime clock
Dog Companion is active and pathing Retrieves feed the Freezer; you should keep firing
Map sense Know Freezer location + open ground for kiting Sell path and boss strafes both need space
HUD currencies Spot Cash vs Feathers readouts Prevents spending the wrong wallet

Day vs night priorities

Daytime — Cash engine

Clear dense flocks, delete aggressive ducks early, keep the dog moving, stash into the Freezer, sell often enough that upgrades stay affordable. Cash buys weapon/dog stats.

Night — Feathers engine

Boss Duck (and later heavier threats) pay Feathers by performance. Strafe sideways, burst on safe windows, and do not treat night as “more daytime farming.”

Freezer rhythm (the beginner differentiator)

Hunt with movement

Track flocks without standing on every corpse.

Trust the retrieve

Dog speed/capacity determine how hard you can push fire rate.

Bank into Freezer

Unstored ducks are progress debt.

Sell for Cash

Open the upgrade panel immediately after big sells.

Buy the bottleneck

Damage first until normals near two shots; then dog.

Enter night prepared

A half-sold Freezer and empty Cash wallet is a failed day.

Freezer sell and upgrade rhythm for beginners

Sample first-hour timeline

Minute Focus Success check
0–5 Loadout + first flock Dog retrieving without you babysitting every corpse
5–15 Freezer sell + first damage buy Cash spent, shots-to-kill trending down
15–25 Aggressive duck cleanup HP stable heading into dusk
Night Boss strafe + Feathers At least one Feathers payout banked
Post-night Bottleneck audit Next spend chosen (weapon vs dog)

Platform notes (PC / console / mobile)

The loop is identical across inputs, but aim precision on PC makes the rifle role more forgiving. Touch players should favor slightly more forgiving auto fire and earlier dog speed so movement jank does not strand corpses. Controllers should practice sideways boss orbits in empty space before committing Feathers. Full bind commentary sits on the controls page.

Common beginner mistakes

First upgrades decision tree

If regular ducks still soak many pellets, buy weapon damage. If ducks die fast but the ground looks like a feather pillow, buy dog speed/capacity/dexterity. If daytime feels fine but night is a wipe, shift Feathers into rate-friendly or survivable boss kits — verify labels in your lobby. Cross-check with the ducks/min calculator and upgrade order page.
